Internationaal Theater Amsterdam , aka the ITA, is immediately severing ties with Flemish director Ivo van Hove, whom has been linked to the theater since 2001, ITA general manager Clayde Menso announced on Wednesday, according to the NL Times.
Menso said that their decision to cut ties with Van Hove was taken “in good consultation.”
This occurred following two external investigations into transgressive behavior on the company’s work floor which showed that ITA has not been “sufficiently safe and inclusive” for years.
Van Hove, 65, is “grateful” for the opportunity ITA provided him to achieve international artistic success with the team and to realize business changes, his spokesperson said on Wednesday, highlighting the construction of the Rabozaal.
Menso said the company needs “calm, recovery, and renovation” after the reports’ publication, adding that the relationship ended “in good mutual consultation” to “make room for a next phase in the development of ITA.”
Van Hove’s and the supervisory board’s resignations provide “space for the cultural shift that the organization now needs.”
